JLB @ Beach House Cafe 01.26.13

The Jed Luckless Band returns to the Beach House after a long wait due to the Hurricane Sandy cancellation of their last date at the venue. This time out it’s a chilly night in the Northeast, but die hard fans came out and were treated to an energetic and fun show with some nice new additions to the setlist.

First set kicks off with the stable “Rock and Roll” into “SILWU” combo, followed up by another strong combo in “Gumbo” and “Victim Of the Rhythm.” The Mark Gutenplan “Englishtown” makes a strong showing along with it’s standard “Rider” companion. The Moe song “Happy Hour Hero” and a pair of rockers round out the set.

Second set provides alot for the Phish fans in the audience, including a nice “Sand” into “Dirt” and the rocker “Character Zero.” The K-man song “Saw Mill River” and Mark G. tune “Road Trip” are served up as mid set originals. A trio of ladies, “Sneakin Sally,” “Prudence” and “Suzy Greenberg” wrap up a fun night at the Beach House with JLB. Enjoy!

JLB @ The Blarney Stone 12.27.12

The Jed Luckless Band hits a new virtual venue in Secondlife, with their debut appearance at The Blarney Stone in Dublin. It’s a packed house and the JLB delivers a fun and energetic show with some nice jams and new tune additions!

The band is obviously primed to play, opening with a sweet 11 minute “Sand” coupled as it commonly is with the JLB original “Ozone”. The fun continues with Phish’s “Gumbo” and a foursome of originals fills out the first set, including a fun new holiday tune from Mark Gutenplan called “Rudy’s Tune.”

Set two features alot of Phish, in honor of the band’s MSG run which began the day after this JLB show. The set opens with “Character Zero,” a new one for JLB which we hope to hear more of. Another great new addition is the Moe tune “Happy Hour Hero.” JLB originals VOTR and “Celebrate Instead” round out the middle of the set, and a nice “Cities>After Midnight” jam combo closes out the show.

A fun new venue for JLB with great energy and awesome tunes! Enjoy 🙂

JLB @ August West Amphitheater 11.21.12

The Jed Luckless Band returns to the virtual stage at Darkstar and cranks out a pre-Thanksgiving show chock full of tasty morsels!

The show starts off right, with a nice “Shakedown Street” and jam into “Queen Lucille.” The band loses Stram on drums for a song, but improvises with a quick and fun “Geneva Sue.”

Stramland is the the band’s home turf and despite the Stramsanity of the evening, the band is comfortable enough to take chances – some of which work better than others. The band’s debut attempt at the Phish tune “Twist” is not their best effort and is hampered by technical issues. But a first showing of the Grateful Dead’s “Ramble On Rose” is very nice and a welcome addition to the roster.

The band settles in about half way through first set, delivering JLB originals “The Freeze” and “VOTR” and an extended and energetic “Suzy Greenberg” set closer for the Phish fans. Second set opens with a poignant band version of “Meredith,” and features some nice jams in “Eyes” and “Cities.”

Good to have JLB back at August West! A fun pre-holiday show worth a listen…enjoy 🙂

JLB @ The Bayou 11.16.12

After a long break, JLB returns to the stage at The Bayou in Mount Vernon, NY, delivering a tasty show of originals, covers, and free Twinkies!

First set is spongy and mellow, starting off with an appropriate “Freeze” on a cold November night. “Jack Straw” and “Bouncing” offer a nice Dead Phish combo, but continue the mellow vibe, followed by the folksy Luckless original “Geneva Sue.” The set kicks up a notch with a nice “Sally” jam into the Gutenplan tune “Road Trip” and a fiery “Ozone” set closer.

Second set takes the energy level up another notch, opening with an energetic “Rock And Roll”>”SILWU” combo, a regular pairing for the band. A creamy filled “Sand” leads into an uncommon “Englishtown”>”El Paso” combo dedicated to Mark. VOTR includes a fun Zeppelin tease, but the energy dissipates quickly into the soulful “Celebrate Instead.” The band’s catchy blues tune “Queen Lucille” wraps it up.

Great to have the band back for this golden cakey show, complete with tribute to Twinkies! Enjoy 🙂

JLB @ Beach House Cafe 09.08.12

The Jed Luckless Band wraps up their summer tour with one more Saturday night at the Beach House in Greenwich, CT, delviering their usual high energy punch of catchy original tunes, Dead and Phish covers and improv jamming.

The show kicks off loudly, with the JLB pop original “Still In Luv With U” and it takes the boys a few songs to find their sound, using a long “Victim” to do so. A strong mid set “Gumbo”/”Sugaree” combo really lifts off and from there on in the band is rockin. The CSN&Y tune “Ohio” gets a nice long treatment, and a few Mark Gutenplan tunes make their way into the set, including the poignant “The Rally,” the band’s tribute to 9|11.

Second set explodes with a fiery “Sand/Ozone” combo, fast becoming a regular pairing for the band. Deadheads are obliged with an “Eyes of THe World” that features some wicked riffing that makes it’s way into a “Not Fade Away” Pig Pin McKernan tribute.

Sadly the power cut off at that point and the last two tunes were lost. But even without the big finale, this a fun show with some tight jamming that is definitely worth a listen. Enjoy! 🙂

JLB @ Kenny’s Castaways 09.05.12

The Jed Luckless Band travels to hallowed ground, the historic Kenny’s Castaways in NYC, a landmark of live music for over 45 years, and the first stage Phish played in New York City. It’s also JLB’s first visit to the Big Apple proper, and they deliver a tight, rockin’ set, opening for the house act Grant’s Tomb.

The band appropriately bookends the set with Phish tunes, starting off the evening on the right note with the VU classic “Rock and Roll.” Most of the set is JLB original material, including a rocking version of “Victim of The Rhythm” and a powerful “Saw Mill River.” Deadheads are not forgotten, with a long “Shakedown Street” and jam combined with the fun Jed tune “Queen Lucille.”

The set wraps up with a steamy “Ozone Blues” and a kick-ass “Suzy Greenberg” which features a slew of special guests on stage, including Mike Bafundo and the horns from Grant’s Tomb, and Mickey Lauber from Rusty Chicken on vocals.

A great NYC debut for the JLB and a fun show to give a listen to! Enjoy 🙂

The Bayou
Mount Vernon, NY

JLB returns to The Bayou in Mount Vernon, NY and delivers an awesome show filled with fun tunes, wicked jams and a guest sit by a horn player!

The show starts off without the band’s keyboardist, but the JLB Trio holds up well, stalling for time with an 11 minute “Eyes Of The World” for the Grateful Dead heads in the audience, and a nice rendition of the JLB original “Smile Forever.”

Mark G. joins the band mid set, and the show lifts off with a sweet “Cities” jam, which leads to a nice “Fire” > “Victim” combo. The set closes with a rockin’ “After Midnight” a good prediction of whats to come.

The band let’s it all hang out for second set, delivering a fun “Bouncing Around the Room” for the Phish fans and a powerful version of the latest cover to enter the JLB rotation, the CSN&Y tune “Ohio.” The second half of the set features a guest saxophone player, which suits “Tenth Ave. Freeze Out” perfectly, and makes for an amazingly energetic “Sand” jam and “Ozone Blues” closer.

Another super fun rocker from the JLB and The Bayou! Enjoy 🙂

Beach House Cafe
Greenwich, CT

The Jed Luckless Band is back at the Beach House in Greenwich, CT. A rainy night didn’t keep the crowd from coming out to dance, and JLB gets ’em going with a mix of Dead, Phish and original tunes.

The dancefloor fills right off the bat, with the “Rock and Roll” opener, and JLB keeps it going with their original “Queen Lucille” and the Phish covered “Gumbo.” Dead heads get their fill with a jammed out “Fire On The Mountain” and a rare Kenny Kaufman led “El Paso.” JLB originals “Saw Mill River” and “Victim of the Rhythm” hold down the middle of the set with some nice jamming from the fellas.

Set two kicks off with the recent addition to the JLB rotation, the Phish tune “Sand.” JLB delivers a laid back version here, before busting out the CSNY tune “Ohio” for the first time (it had been soundchecked at AW a few weeks ago).

A nice long “Eyes Of The World” is the centerpiece of a thirty minute combo with the JLB tunes “Going on A Road Trip” and “The Freeze” to close out the show.

Another fun night at the Beach House with JLB! Enjoy 🙂

August West Amphitheater

JLB hits the virtual stage, delivering a jamalicious show on a steamy night.

First set kicks off with a long “Shakedown Street” which slides effortlessly into a bouncy “Suzy Greenberg.” With The Grateful Dead and Phish represented, the band moves into original territory for the remainder of the set, delivering some nice long jammed out versions of “Saw Mill River,” “The Freeze” and “Englishtown.” An energetic “Still In Luv With U” cascades into the set ender, a solo guitar piece from Jed Luckless called “Meredith.”

Set two returns to the Dead and Phish realms, opening with a rockin’ “Sand” and featuring a twenty-three minute “Fire On The Mountain” > “Sugaree” combo. Plenty of original JLB is also in the mix, with a nice version of the uplifting “Celebrate Instead” and a long “VOTR.” A busted string forces Jed to switch to  a stratocaster for the crowd requested encore, “U.S. Blues.”

Also included in the recording is the soundcheck, the Neil Young tune “Ohio.” A fun show from the JLB with some nice jams and some song surprises. Enjoy!

Mount Vernon, NY

JLB returns to one of their favorite local venues, The Bayou in Mount Vernon, NY! The band delivers another rockin’ show for the ragin Cajun crowd at the Bayou, with something for everyone, from Dead and Phish to originals and classic rock & roll.

Set I kicks off with the Kenny Kaufman original, “Saw Mill River” which provides a nice jumping off point for nice warm up jam by the boys as they find their way into the Grateful Dead’s “Jack Straw.” Phish fans are quickly obliged with a powerful “Bouncing Around The Room,” and the classic “Dear Mr. Fantasy” finds a nice mid-set spot. The Mark Gutenplan original “Remember This Night” gets a nice long jammy treatment and set I closes out with a great twenty minute VOTR>NFA combo.

Colorful Kenny kick starts second set as well, with the Dead tune “Brown Eyed Women,” and the set lifts off with a jammed out Monkees>Phish segue that culminates in the band’s original “Celebrate Instead.” JLB’s newest original from Mark G., “Going on a Road Trip” is part of a super fun finale that includes “Mighty Quinn,” and the original “Queen Lucille.
