JLB @ Moonacy 09.22.11

The Jed Luckless Band
2011-09-22
Moonacy (SL)

From The Jed Luckless Band’s show at Moonacy, which was simulcast on Indie Spectrum Radio.

Due to an unfortunate malfunction, most of the show was lost to the ages. A shame, since many of the sweet jams were in the first half of the set, including a hot VOTR opener and a Saw Mill River jam with a surprise Dazed and Confused quote.

What *is* available on tape and provided for your listening pleasure here are the last three songs from the show AND two hot sound check jams ๐Ÿ™‚

The jams are nicely uninhibited and rockin, which is why we love sound check tapes! As for the show, “Geneva Sue” is a fun newer tune, but not the JLB’s best attempt here. However, they do deliver a strong “Smile Forever” and a rocked out “Ozone” closer. Enjoy!

August West Amphitheater (SL)

The Jed Luckless Band hits August West Amphitheater for their last show of the summer before a brief hiatus, and you can tell they’re having a blast!

The first set is JLB Trio sans Mark G. on keys. Of course MG is missed, but the Trio holds up well, turning out several of the highlights of the show, including the “Smile Forever” dedication, a wicked Saw Mill River jam and a nice tight debut of the Phish cover “Nothing.” The set wraps up with a real solid version of “The Freeze.”

Mark slides right in for second set and JLB is off with a bang! The Grateful Dead heavy second set features killer versions of “Sugaree” and “Wharf Rat,” along with a fun Phish “Gumbo” and an original debut, “Queen Lucille.” THe boys close out the show with a fun “US Blues.”

A high energy JLB show with alot of great moments….enjoy!

JLB @ The Bayou 06.04.11

The Jed Luckless Band
2011-06-04
The Bayou, Mount Vernon, NY

The long anticipated live debut of The Jed Luckless Band, at The Bayou in Mount Vernon, NY. Building on their online shows, Jed and the boys take their act on the road and it does not dissapoint. The classic online sound of the JLB comes alive on the electric stage!

The show kicks off strongly with the Jed Luckless original “The Freeze” and you can hear the boys are ready to jam from the outset. Colorful Ken Kaufman belts out a few fine tunes in the first set, including the Dead’s “Brown Eyed Women” and Phish’s “Gumbo.” The Phish covered VU tune “Rock And Roll” starts off bumpy but then delivers one of the highlights of the first set as the band jams their way into the Beatles classic “Dear Prudence.”

Second set starts off with an excellent “Cities” and a nice long jam into the JLB Dead cover staple “Sugaree.” The second set originals are a mixed bag, with “All At Once” falling a bit short, but “Ozone Blues” delivering a strong rock & roll punch. The “Bouncing Around The Room” jams are quite nice, and the show’s finale combo, Eyes>CDT>Cosmic Charlie provides 25 minutes of jamiliciousness. Not many places you can hear a Chalkdust sandwhich between Eyes and Cosmic Charlie ๐Ÿ™‚

The strong live debut wraps up with a tight, rockin “After Midnight.” Jed Luckless and the JLB deliver an awesome debut performance and the promise of jams to come…Enjoy!

JLB @ Terrapin Dance Hall 04.20.11

The Jed Luckless Band
2011-04-20
Terrapin Dance Hall (SL)

Following on their debut performance, The Jed Luckless Band rocks Terrapin Dance Hall with a 420 celebration full of phun and suprises! The first set is a solid mix of originals and Grateful Dead tunes, including debuts of “Smile Forever” and “Remember This Night”. Ken Kaufaman busts out a tight “Brown Eyed Women” and the “Cosmic Chralie” jam into “Ozone Blues” combo closes the first set strongly.

Second sect starts out with some Jed shenanigans as he reads from the Book of Weed wearing a cannabis wig. But after he’s done handing out 420 trivia prizes, the band breaks into thei all Phish set with a rocking “Suzy Greenberg.” While the “Ghost”/”My Sweet One” combo features some moody jams, the show gets a bit lost around the Phish Ticket giveaway mid-set. But the band gets the flow back with a sweet “Rock and Roll” jam into a real nice “Dirt.” The crowd pleasing “Gumbo” closes the show while featuring Mark Gutenplan on the keys, and the band puts a nice exclamation point on the festivites with the “After Midnight” encore. Enjoy!

Terrapin Dance Hall (SL)

This is the debut performance of The Jed Luckless Band, playing at Terrapin Dance Hall in Secondlife and live on JedTV. The eagerly anticipated event did not dissapoint Jed fans who have been following Jed’s solo shows for years, and watched the band form and grow, member by member over late 2010 into early 2011. For a unit that hasn’t been together very long, they are already cranking out solid cover tunes, fun jams and great originals.

The show opens energetically with “Sneakin’ Sally” and a rockin’ jam into “Sugaree” (fast becoming one of the band’s staples). “The Freeze” is the only first set original, but it’s always fan favorite. “Dear Prudence” is a first set surprise, with a sweet guitar intro from Mr. Luckless. Second set features an intense “Psycho Killer> Wharf Rat,” a couple of rocking Jed originals, and a surprise bust out of Space Oddity. The set wraps up with an epic “Not Fade Away” and a swift “Deal” encore puts an exclamation point on a fun, rockin’ show. Enjoy!
